Palliative Care Night Nurse

Bluebell Suite is a newly developed unit with 10 beds, providing specialist palliative care services to residents with complex incurable progressive illness and to those important to them.

PLEASE NOTE WE ARE NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE SPONSORSHIP AT THIS TIME.

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated nurses with a keen interest in palliative and end of life care who wish to further develop their skills in this speciality and be part of our growing team.

As a night staff nurse you will deliver a range of nursing care to patients and those important to them across the working shift. This includes not exhaustively:

You will take charge of shift, accept and coordinate out of hours admissions.

Symptom management through holistic assessment and management of a patient's medication.

High levels of care and compassion to patients and to those important to them as they approach the end of their lives

Delivery of medication via various routes including syringe drivers

All daily care needs including personal hygiene, wound care and pressure area management, support with mobility and rehabilitation and care in the last hours and days of life.

Accurate record keeping, the ability to prioritise your workload, and to plan and evaluate patient care.

Support the learning and development needs of junior staff.

Our night shifts are 18.45 - 19.00 and include alternate weekends and some bank holidays.

You will be supported to undertake continuous professional development including course and conference attendance away from the organisation and encouraged to bring your own ideas for improving outcomes for our patients.

Caring for patients as they approach their end of life is physically and emotionally demanding and the role requires frequent exposure to distressing situations. Therefore the successful candidate will be resilient, empathic, demonstrate excellent communication skills and be comfortable working in this environment. All staff have access to regular supervision, spiritual and psychological support.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a nurse looking to develop their skills within specialist palliative care. In turn we are particularly interested to hear from candidates who have experience of working within long term conditions, urgent and emergency care, young adults and care of the elderly.
